Help
us Raise the Roof - Gift Day 2008
Last year's
Gift Day raised £1,256 and we all thank you for your
support.With the money raised from last year's Gift Day, legacies
and fund raising the old wooden ladder was replaced with a
metal one that runs up the inside of the tower and into the
spire.
Since being awarded nearly £100,000 from English Heritage
we now need to fund raise with gusto. Phase one, costing £8,500
is near completion which was an in depth investigation of
the roof and its supporting structures. After a preliminary
report, but we are still awaiting the detail, it is expected
to highlight that the damage is more extensive than was first
thought.
The ten
year refurbishment and restoration programme was originally
assessed at £500,000, but if are concerns are confirmed,
then it will be a lot higher, but let us not dwell on speculation,
£500,000 is enough to focus on for now!
It is
now time to up the profile by several orders of magnitude.
Apart
from Gift Day money to be added to the fund, we are starting
a year long raffle which will be drawn on Sunday 16th August
2009. The first prize, with many other ones, will be a ....................SUZUKI
SWIFT 1.3GL, 5 DOOR "59", on-the-road,
car, You select the colour and all you pay for is the insurance
